Όρνιο σε πτήση (Gyps fulvus). Παρατηρούμε το μεταλλικό δαχτυλίδι στο πόδι του. Το Όρνιο είναι ένα από τα 4 είδη πτωματοφάγων πουλιών που καταγράφονται στην Ελλάδα. Το σώμα του φτάνει σε μήκος το 1 μ. και έχει πολύ πλατιές φτερούγες με άνοιγμα έως και 2, 50 μ. Φωλιάζει σε βραχώδεις γκρεμούς, και γεννά μόνο ένα αβγό κάθε χρόνο. Αποτελεί τον, συμβάλλοντας στην καλή λειτουργία των οικοσυστημάτων αλλά και στη δημόσια υγεία.

Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) in flight. We notice the metal ring on its leg. The Griffon vulture is one of 4 species of scavenger birds recorded in Greece. They can reach up to 1 meter in body length and present very wide wings with a wingspan of up to 2.50 meters. They nest on rocky cliffs, and each pair lays only one egg each year. It is the “cleaner” of the countryside as it feeds on carcasses of livestock, contributing to the proper functioning of ecosystems and to public health.
