Σπιτόφιδο (Zamenis situla) κοντά στην περιοχή του Κομμού της Μεσαράς Ηρακλείου. Τα ερπετά και τα αμφίβια συμβάλλουν σημαντικά στη σταθερότητα του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος. Παράλληλα, λόγω των διατροφικών συνηθειών τους, μας προστατεύουν από φορείς ασθενειών (τρωκτικά και αρθρόποδα) κι έτσι συμβάλλουν και στην προστασία της δημόσιας υγείας.

European ratsnake or leopard snake (Zamenis situla) near the area of Kommos of Messara, Heraklion. Reptiles and amphibians contribute significantly to the conservation of biodiversity and the stability of the natural environment. At the same time, they feed on rodents and arthropods, that are usual disease carriers, thus contributing to the protection of public health.
