Νεαρό αγριογούρουνο (Sus scrofa) στον Εθνικό Δρυμό Οίτης. Ο αγριόχοιρος εντοπίζεται κυρίως στα δάση της χώρας μας όπου τρέφεται με καρπούς, φρούτα και βολβούς. Η διατροφή του περιλαμβάνει επιπλέον έντομα, σκουλήκια, σαλιγκάρια, μικρά ερπετά και αμφίβια, αλλά και αυγά πτηνών. Ζει σε ομάδες που αποτελούνται από τα ενήλικα θηλυκά και τα μικρά τους, ενώ τα αρσενικά είναι μοναχικά. Η ταχεία αύξηση του πληθυσμού τους οφείλεται στην έλλειψη μεγάλων θηρευτών όπως ο λύκος.

Young wild boar (Sus scrofa) in Mount Oiti National Park. Wild boars can be found mainly in the forests of our country where they feed on nuts, fruit, and roots. Their diet also includes insects, worms, snails, small reptiles and amphibians, as well as bird eggs. They live in groups consisting of adult females and their young, while the males are solitary. The rapid increase in their population can be attributed to the lack of large predators such as the wolf.
