"Silent Sea" creates a peaceful connection to our oceans and its inhabitants. The layers of blue, white and green recreate the vastness of the deep and the torn rice paper suggests the beautiful waves that pass through it. The five layers that create each piece are intertwined in paper, paint and patterns creating a tapestry-like feeling. My work is tightly woven together stemming from my family's tradition of quilting which you see in the background through the dots, stitches and circles that cover and connect each section. The magazine pages from Smithsonian and National Geographic come out of my viewpoint on the importance of recycling. They share their stories through text and images of the beautiful world and then are used to focus on nature again through the painting.
