Durante la pandemia da SARS-CoV-2, Gormley si interroga sui profondi mutamenti e sul senso ultimo dell’esistenza individuale. Da queste riflessioni nasce “Hold”: una piccola figura umana in argilla, sola, rannicchiata, in attesa. La fisiologia del corpo umano si perde in un rimando continuo ad altre immagini e metafore, come la violenza di un pugno chiuso, per raccontare quella dimensione di solitudine impotente, amara, frustrante, sperimentata dall’individuo privato delle basilari forme sociali.

From these reflections, “Hold” was born: a small human figure in clay, alone, crouching, waiting. The physiology of the human body is lost in a continuous reference to other images and metaphors, such as the violence of a closed fist, to tell the dimension of helpless, bitter, frustrating loneliness experienced by the individual deprived of basic social contacts.
