Reflections from the Artist:
"I am not on the earth. I am not anywhere. Where is my body? Where is my tongue? I speak to you. I say to you. Where is me? Where is me? All this time and I still can’t find home. Hold me in your palms. Hold me tight for 1,000 years so that after I am done becoming, I can say that
there once was a time that I was held for 1,000 years. I am not anywhere, I am not nowhere. This
is where I always am. Just waiting and waiting to become.

“Why won’t you let me become” I cry or shout to myself.

“You are already finished” I whisper or cry back.

We both cry or shout or whisper.

Hold me again, one more time so that I remember how I once held myself for 1,000 years. Even
though I had no body, even though I had no tongue, even though there is no home. Maybe my
body can be my home, my tongue my body. My body my anywhere."

Arit, located in Severn, Maryland, features herself in altered forms of existence and non-existence. She brings in the concepts of afro-frequency (the root of the black magical experience) and afro-futurism (the product of the black radical imagination). Her work is an ode to the fluidity and boundlessness of blackness. It
discusses what is possible when blackness is emancipated from societal restrictions and the imagination is liberated.
