A pile of rotting ties marks the end of San Luis Valley Southern tracks at Jaroso, Colorado. Beyond, a herd of sheep occupies the lonely landscape. Clegg showed his best work in taking pictorial-style views. He seems to have included utility poles whenever possible in his pictures, perhaps because of his U.S. Navy service where ships’ mastheads or scope lines defined scale and perspective.
