Identity , 2021

Identity is an interactive artist book (bending the definition of what a book is) based on sliding puzzles. I was inspired by activist Ayisha Akanbi’s quote, “The fixation with your identity limits your identity” and was inspired by Jessica Poor’s sliding puzzle piece for the sliding puzzle concept. This project connects to the theme because as a queer teenager, I always find myself fixating on identity and questioning who I am and how I’m perceived to the point of distortion. I created this piece to both share the feeling of fixation, frustration and confusion along with the feeling of clarity realization and understanding when the viewer reads the full quote.
