She Doesn’t Know She’s Beautiful
digital photo print of original multi-media collage self-portrait (made using: acrylic paint in the primary colours, Newspaper, Tissue Paper, imprint paper)

Inspired by Eric Carle’s art style, I created a collage self-portrait using a wide variety of papers that I pre-painted using acrylic paint and textured using various tools. The process of creation challenges conventional representations of portraiture while granting me total control over how I wish to portray myself. Initially, this piece lacked conceptual significance, thus I later repurposed it to address the negative influence of societal beauty standards on women’s self-perception.
