A Canadian Pacific double–headed 2–8–2 locomotive passes through Lennoxville, Quebec. The volume of traffic on CP’s route between Montreal and Saint John, New Brunswick, increased dramatically during the winter months when the St. Lawrence River froze. Due to mountainous terrain two locomotives were required on every freight train to deal with the grades encountered.
