Delaware & Hudson Railroad, Watervliet, New York , 1988
archival pigment print

Three of the four ex–Santa Fe Alco PA1s—nos. 17, 18, & 19—acquired by D&H president Frederick C. “Buck” Dumaine in 1967 for use on the enhanced Montreal passenger services, pose in front of the extensive shop complex at Colonie, near Albany, New York. The day service was known as the Laurentian and the night was known as the Montreal Sleeper. As the last survivors of a type of diesel passenger locomotive considered by many to be the best–looking model ever produced, they were widely photographed during their tenure on the D&H.
