For over 40 years artist John DiLeva Halpern has blurred the lines between spiritual practice and art, from large scale durational live performance-art events, to the subject matter of his films, which including Joseph Beuys and Tibetan Buddhism. Halpern runs Buddhist retreats for artists and weekly meditation classes. His work for INVOCATION DEMOCRACY was originally shot and shared with Halpern’s meditation students and continues to bring to its audience techniques of mindfulness and awareness in the face of gross injustices and biases. Halpern currently heads the Institute for Cultural Activism International with artist Emily Harris.
