The drawing involved making a single line for every day of my life from birth, until the process of drawing the lines, caught up with the actual date – the 2nd May 2018.

The process of mark-making was repetitive, contemplative and reflective. It was about measuring the ephemeral grasp we have of days, weeks and years – and ultimately how fragile that really is.

With a background in Sculpture, Neville Gabie’s practice includes performance-based work, film and photography. He has an established national and international reputation for both his studio-based practice and his extensive commissioned projects.

Central to his practice is a response to specific landscapes and communities of people. It is through a sustained and close relationship to ‘place’ that his work; the format, scale and media evolves and central to that is his approach to collective endeavour. Collaborations with members of the public, other artists, writers, musicians and scientific researchers, are almost invariably his mode of operation in the public domain.
Projects vary, from the hugely successful ‘Up in the air [Liverepool 2000/05] in a city centre tower block, which he initiated with two other artists, to residencies in China [Vitamincreativespace 2005], Australia [IASKA 2006] Luxembourg [BeHave, Belval 2015/16] Halley Research Station Antarctica [2008/09] as well as being the artist in residence during the construction of the Olympic Park, London [Olympic Delivery Authority 2010/2012] He has worked with climate scientists, Cabot Institute [Bristol University 2011 /2013] The National trust, [Blickling Hall, Norfolk 2018/2020] and continues to work in South Africa regularly.

Recent works have a strong durational element exploring ideas of time, endurance and vulnerability. A studio practice has always underpinned his creative process, where he continues to work in both two and three dimensions.

Current projects include;

• Cambridge Rules collaborative sculpture commission with Alan Ward. www.cambridgerules1848.com
• A new commissioned work for the Manchester International Festival, based to the construction of ‘The Factory’
• Contains Art and the Onion Collective, Somerset – commissioned work and developing their opening Exhibition
• Hull Maritime Museum – commissioned film for the reopening of the museum
