Youth and Young Rally

[BPA2021-077]

This image was taken at a Black Lives Matter protest in Bristol. Whilst scanning the large crowds I spotted this young girl sat on the ground nestled between peoples legs. The crowd around her was on their feet, rallying around a female speaker, their arms and fists passionately held in the air, jeering and listening to the powerful words of change and a right to equality. The young girl sat still and silent. Absorbing the atmosphere she was witnessing people of of all backgrounds, races and religions, support those who were asking for something as simple as the right to be treated as an equal. I knelt on the ground, lowering myself to girls level. Shooting through the sea of legs it took several attempts to capture a clear shot of the girl, her gaze securely fixed on the female speaker, no doubt a role model and a strong advocate for change. I feel that this image captures the future generation of this country, learning from the current generation to stand up for humanity and a right to equality. A right which had been stripped from them, their parents and their grandparents, by the actions and the greed of the generation of the past.
