Soft Self Portrait With Grilled Bacon
160 x 145 cm (h x w)

With his stepmother and sister, 22 year old Salvador Dali visited Paris in 1926. Dali was introduced to Pablo Picasso by his friend Manuel Angeles Ortiz while he was in Paris. During his week trip to Paris Dali also visited Luis Buñuel, who took him to some attractions like: the Café de la Rotonde, Jean François Millet’s studio, the Grévin Museum, Versailles and the Louvre. Dali was encouraged by his friend Joan Miró, who was also an artist, to exhibit his paintings in Paris.
Dali’s father and sister disapproved of Gala having a relationship with Dali in Cadaqués during September 1929. Dali was excluded from his family home, so Gala persuaded him to move to Paris.
