The Wheelbarrows
160 x 145 cm (h x w)

When Dali moved to Madrid to go to the St. Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, his life went through a massive change. It was there where Dali became friends with Luis Buñuel, Federico Garcia Lorca, Eugenio Montes and others.
Dali was a frequent visitor to the Prado Museum and attended art classes that he was bored with, because he believed he knew more than he was being taught. On October 22 1923 he was expelled from the art school for a year because he insulted two teachers at the school. He went back to Figueres and continued the classes with Juan Núñez. Magazines like Alfar and España featured drawings by Dali now. He returned to St. Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in September 1924.
He was expelled AGAIN from the Madrid school in 1926 for refusing to be assessed by the examination tribunal, who he considered incompetent to judge his work.
