“Police brutality is something that I’ve experienced first hand. It’s something we were prepared for when we were kids... I felt that I had to do something. This issue is bigger than what people say it is. On a grand scale.” -Catt Caulley
Catt Caulley is a contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Originally from Dallas TX, Catt graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Catt specializes in a fusion of classical and modern painting techniques, from Baroque and Rococo to Anime. A literary enthusiast, Catt draws her inspiration primarily from the works of V.C. Andrews to create her bold and haunting pieces.
After graduating from college, Catt began to grapple with her own mental health and financial struggles. During her journey, she observed a systemic lack of resources for mental healthcare, particularly among African American communities. She made the decision to dedicate her work to this theme through the portrayal of African American adolescents. In her portraits, Catt reveals the individual characters beyond a mere stereotype or diagnosis; through the eyes of her "kids," she delivers the sufferer's psyche to the viewer with a spectral intimacy. Her work continues to garner nationwide attention, from being featured in exhibitions in Dallas, Houston, Savannah, Orlando, and L.A. to appearing in the Governors Island Art Fair in 2020.
