Artist Statement
I create visual art and immersive experiences to explore connection and belonging, transforming human struggle into empathic, beautiful spaces. My work looks at personal phenomena and ecology, our needs and motivations, identity, and the powerful influence our surroundings have on our
wellbeing. I use objects to tell stories the viewer can read and touch, fusing fine art, decoration, and craft, and applying visual principles in physical space. This placemaking empowers community and restores what was broken, allowing us to feel our way through emotions we may not have words to describe. This triptych, “Yes, Mama,” comprises 3 photographic pairings of talismanic jewellery I created after becoming a mother to my two daughters. Like a lace birth caul, I overlaid the complete text of a letter written to my attending obstetrician, following a formal complaint I made to the College, advocating for improved standards of communication in hospital births.
