Artist Statement
maman is a series of drawings exploring motherhood and acts of care. Each drawing from the series uses personal images of the artists mother providing gestures of care, but removes all other context from the image. The series highlights love, care and motherhood. The image submitted to Heart of Healthcare, in particular is an image of a mother carrying a young baby. Only the arms of the mother enacting this caring role are drawn, however if examined closely the small grip of a baby’s hand can be seen on the hand of the mother. Though this drawing is part of a series of images, the selected submission explores not only the mother, but highlights her relationship with her child also.
