Artist Statement
The painting entitled “Tiny Hand” is about that moment, when you have time to admire your baby after coming out of the haze and exhaustion of giving birth. Going through the process of pregnancy and birth with a supporting and caring team, makes bonding with you baby special because you realize your new family is supported by a community. Living in a rural area, my partner and I were very grateful to have had excellent access to midwifery care, a local hospital and a community doctor.

Biography
Capturing portraits has always guided Sarah into asking deep questions of herself and her subjects. Since completing her BA in Visual Arts and MA in Art Education, Sarah has used her artistic skills to work in communities, start business and follow her heart. Using a brush thick with paint, a camera, or a ball of clay, she enjoys expressing herself or teaching others to use art as a therapeutic outlet. Her more recent work has focused on the intricacies of hands and the stories they can tell.
