Artist Statement
Cradle of. . . is a bronze, life-sized female pelvis, inspired by a dear friend’s midwifery practice. She often took a plastic, model-pelvis and a baby-sized doll to explain the architecture and movement of the birth-journey to mothers, and those who might attend the birth. Admiring the model as a perfect sculpture, I begged to borrow it, to study its beautiful formal qualities. Soon enough I was creating my own copy in wax; and ultimately decided it must be in the noblest of art materials; my first work in bronze.
