Distortion 7.28.11

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Forced to abandon his fine art work by health complications related to the silkscreen printing process, Alan Kinnard pursued a career as a graphic designer. During that time, personal computers became available and for the next 30 years, his professional work utilized these new technologies. Having resumed an art practice, his current artwork is digital and explores the visual relationships people have with technology; specifically, what happens when things go wrong and how do people react.

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
In the age of streaming media, sometimes the signal is disrupted. This is annoying, bothersome, agitating. But, with the pause, you notice things. Pixels are revealed. Colors are saturated. Images are distorted. Upon reflection, it gives us a chance to pause and see the world in a different way. The art was created by refining the distorted imagery with hand-drawn effects, textures, patterns, and color relationships. Seeing these disruptive images as art can be a way to redirect our emotions.

PLEASE NOTE: The scale of this artwork has been adjusted for the purposes of this virtual exhibition.
