This scroll shows a legendary hero, Zhong Kui, setting out for a hunt with his sister. Just because a painter opposed the new regime, does not mean that everything has to be interpreted in this vein. Perhaps this painting is a satire on pomp and pageantry, but perhaps he wanted to dabble in the world of spirits and demons.
