Alix Marie (b.1989) is a French multidisciplinary artist based in London, working across the mediums of photography, sculpture and installation. She graduated from Central Saint Martins College, London, in 2011 with a first class honours degree in fine art and later completed an MA in photography at the Royal College of Art, London.
Her work explores our relationship to bodies and their representation, through processes of objectification, fragmentation, magnification and accumulation. She has demonstrated a particular interest in addressing gender stereotypes through a visceral, genuine and an often humorous approach. Marie often mixes mythological references with autobiographical elements and intimacy is a recurring theme in her practice. She strongly believes that content and form come hand in hand and her materials are therefore carefully selected according to each project's subject.
In 2017 she won the Portfolio Review Award, was selected for the 11th edition of Foam Talent Call, and her first artist book Bleu was published by Morel Books.
In 2018 she presented two solo shows of new works: ADYTA in Dusseldorf as part of the Dusseldorf Photo Weekend and La Femme Fontaine at Roman Road.
In 2019 she was awarded the Vic Odden Award by the Royal Photographic Society for a notable achievement in the art of photography by a photographer aged 35 or under; she was nominated for the EMOP Arendt Award 2019 and took part in the touring exhibition Bodyfiction as part of the European Month Of Photography and in the Peer to Peer project organised by Open Eye in Liverpool and SCOP in Shanghai.
Also in 2019, she presented two solo shows of new work: Shredded at Roman Road, London and Sucer La Nuit at Musée Des Beaux Arts, Le Locle.
