Seen from a second-story window at North Milwaukee Tower, a Fairbanks-Morse H-12-44 locomotive turns east while leading a train onto the Beer Line. These diesel-electric switchers were common on the Beer Line, as they could take tight curves and provide strong pulling power for the heavy trains.
