Two railroaders discuss business with a client alongside the Milwaukee Road tracks. Blue-collar industries like meatpacking and brewing built up Milwaukee throughout much of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. According to the railroad’s Reciprocal Switching List, the Milwaukee Road served almost 400 business industries in Milwaukee and the surrounding suburbs. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Beer Line alone provided direct service to about 100 businesses and industries. Abbey-01-147-10
