The Inner Circle I , 2020
20 x 26 in (h x w)
watercolor, colored pencil, Digital

This piece introduces us to May and her family, but also the overall concept of the inner circle. The circular objects symbolize the inner circle: the closest and truest love in your life., its wholeness, timeless and infinite quality. The oranges stand for good luck, often gifted for the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Mooncakes are a traditional treat during the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. They symbolize completeness and togetherness.

One parent is representative of single-parent households, a layer of the narrative I felt was important to get more representation. Although small, the closeness of the family is powerful in creating warmth and a sense of belonging. Who is your inner circle?
