Acrylic on Paper

The work I have submitted to this show aims to portray the feelings and energy that many of us have during these strange times. Many people are alone and fearful; many are experiencing overcrowding, illness, financial hardship. Some are working to the point of exhaustion, others are desperate for something meaningful to do. My hope is that these paintings will encourage the weary, the unappreciated, the overworked, undervalued, unnoticed and underpaid. The paintings are brightly coloured, energized and positive in an expression of gratitude and love.
Arleen McCallum is a west Toronto artist who has been painting for twenty five years; her compositions have been primarily non-figurative and brightly coloured. She has worked mostly in oils and acrylics on canvas and wood. Arleen has had eight solo shows in Toronto, and participated in many group shows. Lately she has been exploring mylar and Japanese washi using many different media and approaches. Arleen often draws on travel experiences for inspiration.
