The Heart of History , 2021
Acrylic paint, Construction Paper, Marker

"This artwork portrays the message of mother nature and history. I was inspired by the poem “Tropical Depression” by Julissa Emile. I started with a woman’s body and made her become a “tree of life”, Then I made the “branches” her hair and instead of making it wood I decided to make it blue to symbolize water. Water that flows everywhere, connecting all of us. The theme of the book we read in class was about history and how it led to this point; “Like my history is something that's supposed to lead me here”. I tried to allude to this with the roots. If I redid the artwork or worked on it more I think I would make the roots more complex, just like history.
