Looking to the Past , 2021
Digital Photography

"Looking to the Past portrays a modern day woman photographed in the same style of a photograph taken during the late 1800’s when photography was invented. This image explores identity and the value of a photograph when technology of photography was in its infancy, and it was a privilege to have a portrait taken. Portraits were more of a documentation of the sitter rather than a true exploration of their personality. To achieve a wet plate effect which was used during the time; the image was manipulated using image editing software.

This piece successfully helped me reach my goal as this photograph is based on photos from the past in which I learned about art at the turn of the century and how to achieve the same effect in the 21st century using modern digital techniques.
