"This is a portrait of my mother. She is wearing a traditional scarf and jewelry that represent my South Asian heritage.

This artwork took many attempts. I captured many images in different settings, with different lighting and different facial expressions. I manipulated the image using digital imaging software to give it a vintage appearance.

I intended to create a piece where I could showcase not only my culture, but also my mother. This artwork explores the importance of the invention of photography, and the value of portraiture during the turn of the century when a photograph was a true document and item that was revered. Creating this artwork definitely increased my interest in photography.
