Wikipedia Interface , 2000

Inspired by the growth of open-source software, Jimmy Wales developed the first version of his online encyclopedia in 2000, then called Nupedia. With an editorial process consisting of volunteer peer reviewers and subject editors, just 12 articles were published in its first year. The idea only took off in 2001, when Jimmy pivoted to a completely open wiki model – allowing anyone to write and edit entries – and relaunched as Wikipedia, with almost 20,000 articles published within a year.
