Glimmer of Hope , VCE
56 x 26 cm (h x w)

The theme I chose to explore for Studio Arts is men’s mental health. I was interested in communicating feelings associated with personal experiences and what I think many can relate to, especially in recent circumstances such as lockdowns. For my artworks I wanted there to be some-what positive underlining, which led to my series ‘Glimmer of Hope’ depicting men who are in a dark place but who can see something to look forward to. I have communicated the idea of them having a tiny bit of motivation to keep on going by having a black, empty canvas that surrounds the figure to demonstrate being surrounded by darkness and I painted a crescent of light shining on the face of the figure to show a glimmer of hope or ‘a light at the end of the tunnel’.
