A common theme in Samantha Cary's work a is that of the temporal, things being the same but different. Working in paint and print she often explores a subject returning to the same motif marking shifts in perception time and detail.
A Soap Opera is a series of 10 aquatints that explore a house in time, changing light, glimpses of interiors illuminated as lights turn and off and on. The series was made during lockdown in response in particular to the first lockdown. The series is loosely based on a house glimpsed from the artists window that hijacked the artists attention in those early days as we all, confined to our houses, tried to make sense of what was going on. The aquatints were made, out of necessity, in a temporary print studio in a shed in the artist's garden.
Her works has been shown in various group shows including the Royal Academy summer exhibition, Flowers gallery, Towner Art Gallery and in 2019 a solo exhibition at the Eagle Gallery.
