Kate Alger is inspired by trees, dogs and beautiful things. Her work balances fine detail with plenty of negative space.

Kate's work often features her delicate hand drawings. Her screenprints generally include several different drawings printed on top of one another as well as hand-cut paper stencils. Kate's sugar-lift etchings allow her to explore a looser way of working. All of Kate's work is created by hand.

She is a keyholder at Ochre Print Studio in Surrey and she enjoys having so many different printing techniques, beds and presses at her fingertips. She strives to capture both the likeness and the character or soul of her subject matter.

The sugar-lift etchings selected are of trees and views that Kate knows well. Leith Hill was created as the first Lockdown loomed. Like the rest of the world at the time, the trees are teetering on the edge of the unknown yet standing strong together. Alice Holt was created as the various lockdowns lifted, the world slowly reopened and the restorative power of being outdoors and looking for the light was at the forefront of Kate's mind.

Alongside her etchings, Kate is steadily building her collection of sensitive animal portrait drawings and screenprints, and her automotive art is gathering collectors. During this difficult past year, Kate has managed to create several new pieces, including one exciting collaboration with a Savile Row tailor and another with a large London dog charity.

Kate Alger's artwork is held in private collections and has been featured in specialist press.
