Deirdre Kashdan portrays feelings and sensations, borne out of experience.

Drawn to Printmaking because of its versatility and often unexpected outcomes, processes include Monoprinting, Etching, and Drypoint. By combining different techniques together, the possibilites are endless, and renders each individual print unique.

She allows chance marks and textures to start the direction of her work, with tighter control and decision making come into play as the piece develops.

The recent death of her sister to Covid 19 led her to reflect upon the concept of 'Sisterhood' in general.

'Eva' is one of a series of Monoprints which depict ghostly heads inspired by Picasso’s treatment of his various Muses. Whilst he would often depict and appear to relish in their suffering, Deirdre attempts to redress the balance by gently portraying the beauty and vulnerability of each.

Deirdre Kashdan graduated from the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Canterbury in 2002 with a BA Hons in Fine Art. She also has an MA in Education, and teaches painting, drawing and printmaking from her studio in Deal.

A member of the Printmaker’s Council, her work is in private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.
