Hildur Jónasson´s work investigates her relationship to nature within the context of the emotive side of the climate crisis.

Jónasson creates a rich visual language of textures and forms informed by her Icelandic background, experiences in nature and memories of landscapes. Jónasson employs various printmaking mediums and her work ranges from dystopian and moody landscapes to magical and hopeful works that have a dreamlike quality.
Her colour palette is restrained to allow for the richness of texture, form and composition to take centre stage.

Jonasson’s recent prints, Hope Spot I, II and Twilight, are her first print offerings in the UK. This work orginated in the form of plastic pollution collected during the Arctic Circle Artist residency in the fall of 2017. The shock and despair of encountering plastic pollution in such a remote and otherwise pristine wilderness has spurred off a maelstrom of work addressing ecopsychology.

Jónasson holds a B. Des. from The Alberta University of the Arts and P.Bac in Studio Printmaking from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University in Canada.

She has exhibited in Canada, Iceland and USA, notably at the International Print Centre, New York.

Her work is held in private and public collections including City of St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, Yukon Permanent Art Collection and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University.
