Born in Hong Kong and graduated from the Royal College of Art, Fine Art Printmaking. Currently teaching Printmaking and Drawing at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University.
An Gee’s practice employs various forms - prints, drawings, paintings, murals, ceramics and sometimes installation. Varying in scale from small to large. Printmaking is a medium that she employs primarily for her ideas.
Life issues are a strong focus in her work. Our loss and changes, the indelible memories, the unforgivable regrets, the unpredictable, the unknown, death, illness, lack of control in life, distances between humans, separation and loneliness. Daily life observations and experiences are an important source of inspiration, dark or absurd episodes from her dreams, childhood, the media, science are of interest. These thoughts are transformed into visual records, statements and comments.
She tends to create narrative based, allegorical work. The content of the work ranges from lighthearted to more sinister or serious topics. Often presented with a sense of dark humor, for people to have a small laugh and perceive things in a more positive way. To have her audience know these are just normal events in life which most people have to experience.
