Sheena Vallely’s work reflects an intuitive response to her materials and process where colour and the mark play equal parts in transforming her ideas around everyday themes and popular iconography.
Whether in wood or metal, Sheena manipulates each printmaking process in search of the desired effect which often evolves through play and accident along the way.
Her key processes are monoprint, carborundum, etching and woodcut. All of her work is printed by hand using the etching press.
Sheena holds a Masters degree in printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts and since then she has continued her work in print at Artichoke Print Workshop London, Bath Artist Printmakers and Cato Press, Bristol. She has had artist printmaking residencies and presentations in Holland, Germany and Sweden.
Sheena has shown her work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Mall Galleries and ICA, London and she had solo exhibitions in Manchester, London, Berlin, Alkmaar and Dublin.
Her works in printmaking and painting are in private and public collections including Tate Library, London, Metropolitan Library, New York and National Irish Visual Arts Library, Dublin.
She is currently preparing to present her work and to begin a new body of work for an artist residency in Antwerp this autumn.
