Christine Watson’s mezzotints mainly are inspired by visits the Souks and Kasbahs of Morocco although occasional the image of a sundial or fragment of Roman sculpture will form the focus. It is the space between buildings and urban areas which is of particular fascination, adding a sense of exploration and intrigue to the architectural images.
She has been working with mezzotint for several years finding it the perfect medium for her imagery. The meticulous process allows her to achieve subtle tones gradually moving from dark to light. Christine also works in soft pastels using a similar involved and methodical process but applying a colour instead of black and white tones.
Christine achieved her BA at Winchester School of Art and completed her post-graduate studies at the Slade School. She has exhibited regularity in London and throughout the UK. She is a regular exhibitor at the annual Pastel Society exhibition at the Mall Galleries and is a member of the Printmakers Council showing work at their exhibitions. Her mezzotints are held at the Printmakers Council Print Archive at Scarborough Art Gallery and at the V & A in London as well in many private collections.
