Sarah Boyd’s work is an antidote to her day job as an architect, and the organic layered prints a huge contrast to her orthogonal urban building designs.

Her prints, with layered marks, patterns and symbols, are produced using a variety of printmaking techniques: linocut; photo-litho; etching; woodcut; collagraph. Fragments of memories are overlaid, repeated, transformed, and each print has a connection to the next - an osmosis-like process.

Sarah produces distinct varied editions (EV), or unique ‘one offs’.

‘Tide Turning’ 2021: This most recent work is an emotional response to the lifting of lockdown merged with dreamlike seascape visions. The large scale etchings combine etching techniques such as ‘white ground’, ‘sugarlift’ and ‘aquatint’. The varied edition include some of contrasting coloured layers achieved through the additional photo-litho process.

Sarah’s love of printmaking is a natural development of her art practice that has always been a part of her life. In the last ten years she has advanced her skill through expert tutoring at Morley College and Slaughterhaus Studios in South London, as well as in her own studio in Peckham.

She has exhibited regularly since 2005 in both group and solo shows: including group show '125 Print in Parallel', London, ’Loudest Whispers’, St Pancras; Morley Gallery, Peckham Platform Open, Surface Gallery Nottingham, Nunhead Art Trail, and bMsO Gallery London.
