"I’ve incorporated the following key terms: voice, words can hurt, an outside perspective from my point of view, and experience. This artwork represents a time in school where kids called me monkey because I was born in Cape Verde (a nation with 10 islands on the West Coast of Africa). I am hoping this artwork will teach kids that someone who is different than me does not mean they are bad people and it could actually be a good thing and they can learn something new from that person."
