The Eggs of the SunBird came to me in a vision one night. I kept hearing the title in my head, till I woke up wondering what to do with it - was it supposed to handled as a group project,
such as a drawing competition for the children of the Boston schools? But in my reflection,
as hours passed, the middle of the night started flickering colorful shapes before my eyes
and then I saw the bird, with its multicolored eggs in a real life nest. All I could do was gather material from all sorts of paths of my life - pieces of cloth from things I wore years and years
ago, and pieces of cloth from things my own kids had grown up in. And a few flowers I had once embroidered my pants with, then precious buttons made of mother of pearl from my set of “treasures”; then the spiritual touch with feathers, some of them offered to me personally by a bird named Dinka, very close to my heart. I had kept the vibrant blue velvety cloth for a very special project...
It took months fiddling about with needles and threads and all my precious rags, and the message came to life, to be shared and spread... Thank you for sharing... and spreading. We are all responsible for the harmonious and promising hatching of the Eggs of the SunBird.
Dedicated to the Children of the World with Love

This piece is a rustic tapestry: made of assembled pieces of fabric, diverse in fiber identity, texture and colors, hand-sawn on a royal blue velvet background to celebrate the preciousness of life. The Sun, central character, is depicted as a mother Bird. Her head is bright yellow, round as the heart of a flower, with a red crest made of petals that are the rays of the sun. These two colors represent joy and love in the artist’s symbolism. The flower is a symbol of natural beauty and innocent love. The bird has two five-fingered hands, like a human mother, conveying the message of human nurturing/healing/love.
The eye of the bird is a feather inserted into a sterling silver bead. Inside the body of the bird, three red-circled shapes represent three future eggs, as the artist’s reference to trinity-the sacred oneness of spirit~soul~body in life.
The nest, half fringes - half weave uniting bright yellow fabric and non-dyed fibers, hosts embroidered eggs of different colors, like the different nations of the World. The title of the piece, in bright yellow thread, was embroidered directly into the background and it took half-an-hour to sew each leer - thus close to ten hours to complete the title. It took another nine hours straight to embroider the artist’s signature and connected flower.
