Shooting Stars for Wind Turbine Blade Repairs

Inter-fiber failure and micro-cracks present in a fractured glass fiber reinforced polymer specimen in the non-fracture region. These specimens are used to study the damage mechanisms of various scarf joint repairs on wind turbine rotor blades in order to best restore their service life, and also resemble a night sky when microscopically imaged with specific parameters.
