Holism , 1999-2021
Audiovisual NFT, 1/1.

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
This 1/1 audiovisual NFT was minted on the Ethereum blockchain on October 15 2021. The work is about the passage of time, and is based on the eponymous composition from my Metagraph series of vector-based digital drawings. Holism was originally composed as a still image in my East Village studio (which was affectionately known as ‘the Pod’) in 1999. It was drawn on a Mac 8600 using a Wacom tablet in Illustrator 8. It was the first work that I produced as a large-scale digital monoprint on canvas. The drawing has been reborn as an audiovisual NFT 22 years later. The original audio track collages ambient night-time recordings captured in my childhood home in Southampton, New York and at my current home in Vermont.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Bronx-born artist Colin Goldberg’s work explores the relationship between technology and personal expression. He was born in the Bronx, NY to parents of Japanese and Jewish ancestry. The artist is a recipient of grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts. Goldberg coined the term “Techspressionism” as the title for a solo exhibition in Southampton NY in 2011. It was first described as a movement in the 2014 WIRED article “If Picasso had a Macbook Pro” and later elaborated upon in a 2015 interview on the PBS show Art Loft. In 2020, Goldberg began development of Techspressionism as a collaborative social sculpture with curator and critic Helen Harrison and artists Patrick Lichty, Steve Miller, and Oz Van Rosen.
