2015 – The Oregon Zoo

GBI spent the better part of a decade (2012-2021) transforming nearly 40 percent of the Oregon Zoo. These projects included the Elephant Lands, Polar Passage, Primate Forest, Rhino Habitats and Educational Center.

Our work there enhanced animals' wellbeing, improved access to conservation education, and upgraded water and energy systems.

With each project, GBI carefully coordinated construction; work often occurred in tight places to maximize spaces for animals during construction. With the various species in their exhibits 24 hours a day, shutting down water or gas involves rerouting drains or sewer lines or temporary heaters and water and bringing equipment back in a coordinated way. The need to minimize exhibit closures, move animals safely and minimize disruptions to visitors walking through the narrow roads and pathways adds another layer of considerations.
