This is a drawing of the border-crossing experience of 17 year old Paula and her mother. It begins on the river where 4 adults boarded a small inflatable raft. Others swam across. She remembers a rainy, dark, and windy night. Neither Paula nor her mother could swim and both were very anxious. After crossing the river, they had to climb a slippery, muddy, and steep wall. On the other side they had to walk through thick brush, until they presented themselves to the U.S.Border Patrol agents. Afterwards, they were placed in a detention facility(depicted in gray building with fencing) and referred to it as a "Hielera" or IceBox due to the very cold temperatures. Paula acknowledged that it was only through the hand of God that they survived the treacherous journey.
