Reaching For Your Dreams , 2021
Mixed Media on Canvas

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

The 2021 apARTogether exhibit was the inspiration behind the painting, as it gave the artist an opportunity to do what she loves the most: painting; and trying out new techniques. This canvas painting (12 x 16 inches) shows a ballerina following her heart, enjoying the journey, and reaching for her dreams. The skyline of the painting is a combination of crushed glass, silver leaf, and glitter. The ballerina is adorned by rhinestones and glitter; her ombre skirt is made with the nib painting form of art using oil paints. Lastly, acrylic paints give a perfect hue to the backdrop.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Learning begins at home! This phrase perfectly describes Nafeesa’s love for art. Her love for colours started when she first learnt how to hold a pencil. She grew up seeing and learning drawing and painting from her elder brother, who in turn learned from their parents. In short, creativity flows in their blood. Over the years, she has learnt and experimented with many forms of art and on various mediums, from pencil sketching, fabric painting, canvas painting to stained glass painting. However, her favourite is nib painting, in which calligraphy nibs of different tip shapes are used to create unique textures and colouring patterns. She is a hobby artist and her biggest art moment was presenting her art piece at the National Jubilee Arts Festival, USA, in 2018.
