This painting is part of a series representing a new direction for my work. The under painting is strictly black and white and the many shades of gray between. However, there was a minimal amount of transparent color added to areas of the picture plane. Luminous color is indeed seen in this works . . . The painting never appears to be flat gray, but many understated and elusive shades of the ambient light.
