Hollywood Dress Sewing Pattern , 1940s
Pattern

It is common for Chinese Canadian women to sew their clothes in the 1940s, modelled after the latest fashions they saw in Hollywood movies or magazines. Adelaide MacKinnon donated this Hollywood dress sewing pattern. She sewed all her children’s clothing on a sewing machine and ordered the patterns through the mail. This pattern is the Hollywood Pattern #1244, size 18, for making women’s dresses. It reflects the collective experiences of how Canadian women came of age in the 1940s, followed the fashion trends and made their tailored clothes.
